Over the last few weeks we have been watching the £ to $ get slowly stronger. The last time we looked here it was at the dizzy heights of £1.78 (ish) and at that point I think it got a bit of a nose bleed. Over the weekend we went shopping and had another look at the exchange rate hoping that it may of gone up a bit more, only to be shocked by how much it had dropped. Not it is around £1.51 (ish). Talk about through the floor or what. We are waiting for a good exchange rate, to change over our money, but if things keep going the way they are it may be a long time before we can change it.

Too true, hopefully it will not go much lower, but with things the way they are you never know.

It has nose dived ever since the report in the Sunday Times said there was going to be a hung parliament at the next election. The confidence has disintigrated. All my money will have to stay in the UK for at least 6 months I recon.

Personally hanging the lot somehow sounds a good solution.

It sure does sound a good option. As long as we can get our money out too at a reasanable exchange reate.

Brown and his gang of henchmen have totally stuffed the U.K economy. It could get worse whoever is in charge. Don't hold you're breath. It's also coupled with the strong OZ economy boosted by W.A with its mineral reserves, coal and gas.

Here for 9 weeks we've spent slightly under $10,000 against the $7,000 we normally spend in that time, all due to the low value of the pound. Hanging is too good for the Labour party.

Back to the U.K on Saturday.

Very good question and when you think about it that is the only answer.

Just read that since Labour came to power over 1,400,000 jobs have been lost in manufacturing, and 94,000 of those were in the north east of England.

Labour for the workers? You've got to be joking.

The wool has been pulled over the eye of the British electorate for years and people have been enticed to vote Labour but all that they have ever done is bring the country down. Just look at the current rate of exchange.

At the end of the day they say what people want to hear to get your vote and then sh1t on you when they are in.

All trying to get more money out of you via taxes. We have a leaflet from the local party with the picture of the guy on it, with a big cheesy smile. The first time that we have seen him ever.

Felix you ask why I bother going back to the U.K. One reason - almost 53 years ago I got married. I still love my wife and she does not wish to leave the U.K. for various reasons, one of which is that she has another two sisters there, another is that she likes our house. The best that I can do is to get her to come here once or twice a year.

People say that whoever gets in they are all the same. No. One lot puts us into the black and the economy rises. The other shower spends all of the money and put us in deb. We are currently £980 billion in debt.

We've been coming to OZ since 1990, every year, and I know what has happened to the exchange rate in that time.

Check the records for the last 50 years. Take a good look at how our economy compares with 5 other economies over the last 50 years. I'd guess that many on this site can't go back 50/60 years or more.

September 2008 I got 240 to the pound. In January 2010 I got 166 to the pound. I wish that in 2008 I changed £20,000 for future use here.

I feel Engish to the core, with my family going back to 1540, and I hate to see them sinking, but at my age it won't do a lot of harm to me as I'll be turning up my toes before too long.

There's no doubt that the good life is here in OZ. We live well in the U.K but I know where I'd rather be. Felix has a problem, methinks.

Come on lance.....where have you been hiding.....surly even you can remember Norman lamont?.....i think he single handedly got interest rates up to about 15%.....Then there was Johnathon Aitken and all that lying in court business.....didnt he say something about the "sword of truth" l:

Did I ever say, anywhere, that I favoured the Tories? What I did say is that every time that Labour get a chance they empty the kitty and we go bum up again. Then it takes years to get out of the mess, hence high inflation and higher taxes, but at least there's money in the bank again before they get another chance to destroy the economy.

Too true Felix we are very excited about going out and at the end of the day if we were not, then we would have to question our move. You have to give it a go though. So what is your money on? :)
